Formal Pond
This large country garden was essentially an open field when we first began work. The brief for the design was to create a spectacular country garden, framing the views out across the Avon gorge below.
The design centred around the formal pond with structured planting radiating out from this central focus. Rich perennial planting with textured grasses and structural shrubs, hedges, espaliers and trees come together to create a series of unique spaces celebrating the clients love of plants.
Project Year: 2013
Project Cost: £7,501 - £10,000
Country: United Kingdom
Area: Upper Westwood, Bradford On Avon
A featureless lawn was the starting point for this garden. A formal space was required. The main pond is dug and blockwork laid to create the formal shape. The liner is then held in place whilst the pond fills up, allowing the team to neatly fold it into corners.
The structure almost complete, just lots of bed preparation and planting to go .....
The first summer after completion, and already the planting softens the space
The view through the trained Hornbeams that create a corridor from the driveway to the garden – these allowing just tempting glimpses of the pond as you go.
2 years after completion and the full impact of the scheme can really be seen. The mixed planting scheme gives movement, colour & structure and acts as a brilliant background for the pond itself.
Mixed perennial planting surrounding the main pond provides strong colour in the summer.
